UNIL PhD students benefit from short-term research mobilities within CIVIS UNIL PhD students benefit from short-term research mobilities within CIVIS ============================================================================ CIVIS Highlights 24 Μαρτίου 2025 The University of Lausanne is offering its PhD students the exciting opportunity to add an international dimension to their research. Through a brand-new short-term research mobility scheme, developed by the local CIVIS Team, PhD students enrolled at UNIL can spend 5 to 30 days at one of the CIVIS member universities. ![](/storage/files/phd-mobility-scheme.jpeg) ©UNIL The initiative allows PhD students to immerse themselves in a new academic environment, deepen their research and forge links with other researchers in Europe. Whether attending seminars, collaborating on research projects, or participating in specialised training, the programme provides a unique chance to enhance a PhD journey. By joining it, UNIL's students can: - advance on their research in a stimulating academic setting; - access cutting-edge facilities and specialised expertise; - expand their scientific network by connecting with; - receive financial support for their mobility experience. A first-hand experience ----------------------- The first student to benefit from this initiative is Laurent Audétat, a doctoral student in the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. His research focuses on access to higher education in Vietnam and Senegal during the colonial period. Through this CIVIS initiative at UNIL, last month Laurent travelled to Aix-Marseille University, where he accessed the archives of the ANOM (Archives nationales d'outre-mer). During his stay, he attended conferences and courses that provided fresh perspectives on colonial and post-colonial issues. Beyond archival research, this experience paved the way for future collaboration, as he has been invited to contribute to a course to present his work and will collaborate with the Research Group on colonial orders (GROC): > *This stay represented the most useful fieldwork I will carry out throughout my doctorate. Moreover, the collaborations mark the beginning of a scientific dialogue that I hope to pursue in the long term”,* says the student.
